Friday (Aug. 17):

Third Friday @ Third Degree Glass Factory This month's theme is "vroom-vroom." Enjoy samples from Frostbite Gourmet Ice Cream, sip on watermelon martinis, and snack on small plates such as orzo pasta salad, spedini skewered chicken and hummus with pita over the usual live entertainment. Free. 6 to 10 p.m.

Champagne Class @ The Wine Merchant Ltd. Sample six different champagne varieties. $50 per person. 6 p.m.

Around the World Wine Dinner @ Missouri Botanical Garden Chefs from Catering St. Louis create a regional menu themed, "The Ring of Fire: Pacific Rim-Inspired Food and Pacific Northwest Wines." Dishes include pulled beef short rib with pickled napa slaw in corn tortillas, ground lamb on skewers with Asian black bean sauce, and slow-roasted slab bacon with Szechwan pepper and bittersweet chocolate peanut ganache tart. $58 per person. How Bad Do You Want It @ Emerson Performance Center The Harris-Stowe State University Players theater group welcomes FreshStart Productions' How Bad Do You Want It, a dinner-theater showcase. Tickets are $10-20. 8 p.m.

Saturday (Aug. 18):

City Diner 20th Anniversary Retro Carnival @ City Diner City Diner celebrates two decades in business with family-friendly games, local vendors, a retro photo booth, a biscuits-and-gravy eating contest, a dance party, and more. Read on for more about City Diner's 20th Anniversary Retro Carnival. Admission is free. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Food Trucks at the Factory @ Koken Art Factory Can't get enough of food trucks? Head to Koken to load up on eats from participating vendors. Admission is $5. Family fun lasts 'til 3 p.m., and cocktails become available for big kids past 5 p.m. 11 a.m. to midnight.

Grow Your Own Garlic @ Schlafly Bottleworks Schlafly gardeners Jack Petrovic and Nolan Kowalski explain what's necessary to grow garlic. Learn about different varieties, how and where to plant, when to harvest and more. The event is free, but seating is limited. 7 p.m.

Sunday (Aug. 19):

Yes, We Can! @ Kitchen Conservatory Learn safe and easy canning techniques for items like hot and spicy pickled corn, Chinese plum sauce, cherry-black pepper preserves and more. $60 per person. Register online via the Kitchen Conservatory web site. 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Banfi Wine Dinner @ Balaban's Wine Cellar and Tapas Bar This five-course dinner pairing features Banfi Italian wines with each course. Dishes include pan seared squab, veal ravioli, and braised berkshire pork. $85. Call 636-449-6700 for reservations. 6:30 p.m.

Julia Child inspired dinner @ Vin de Set In honor of the French chef's would-be 100th birthday, Vin de Set offers a special three-course prix-fixe dinner. $29.99 per person. Call 314-241-8989 for reservations.
