The organizers of Midwest WingFest, slated to be held this weekend in Fairview Heights, Illinois, have canceled the event due to the remnants of Hurricane Isaac forecast to drench the region Friday through Sunday.

(A tip of the cap to George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine for the news.)

The organizers posted the following message on the Midwest WingFest website:

YES, IT'S OFFICIAL - WINGFEST 2012 HAS BEEN CANCELLED

We are canceled due to the tremendous amount of rain that will be dumped on Fairview Heights over Friday night thru Saturday night. Chris Higgins of Fox News says that between 3" and 5" will fall in that time period with the possibility of flash floods. This has been verified thru numerous other sources. As you can imagine, we are devastated.

Adlai Stevenson once said "I'm too old to cry but it hurts too much not to" We are racing to notify those that need to be told. Please be patient.

The great news is that many of our wing vendors have already signed up for 2013!!! Thank you for your confidence. We could not do this without you!

Cheers, WingFest Committee

Not sure what to do with yourself now that WingFest has been cancelled? You can always relive last year's event through the RFT slideshow.
