Dunkin' Donuts announced today that the St. Louis area will see three new DD franchise locations over the next couple of years. According to a press release, all three will be run by the same partnership; the first is to open in 2013 and the others by 2015.

"We are excited to expand Dunkin' Donuts' presence in St. Louis and play an important role in the daily lives of people who live, work and visit here," said Dean Kreher, Dunkin' Donuts Franchisee. "We have a passion and loyalty for the brand and look forward to the opening of our Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the years to come."

Gut Check's first reaction: Big frickin' whoop. We already have Dunkin' Donuts in St. Louis. Dunkin' Donuts is old news. Kansas City's getting its own IKEA store, for crying out loud! Where's our IKEA, dammit?!

But then, after reading through the rest of the DD press release, we had an idea.

Building a solid network of stores within a market enables Dunkin' Donuts to invest in a distribution model that provides consistent, high-quality products that guests expect. In an effort to keep the brand fresh and competitive, Dunkin' Donuts offers flexible concepts for any real estate format including free-standing restaurants, end caps, in-line sites, gas and convenience, travel plazas, universities, as well as other retail environments.

Sooner or later, St. Louis will get the IKEA store we so rightfully deserve. And when that day comes, Gut Check will be there waiting, Dunkin' Donuts franchise documents in hand, ready to pounce.

True, IKEA has already adopted its own on-site-restaurant concept, but there's always room for improvement, and in St. Louis, there definitely appears to be room for more Dunkin' Donuts.
