Ten Best Food Events This Weekend: Oct. 12-14

Friday (Oct. 12):

Food Truck Friday @ Tower Grove Park Head to the park (before doing so requires a parka) for the last major food truck fest of the year. Nibble on quick fixes from Papa Tom's Fancy Franks, Le Food Truck, Sarah's Meltdown and more. As always, admission is free--arrive early! 2 to 7 p.m.

Soulard Oktoberfest @ Soulard Oktoberfest Grounds German cuisine abounds, live polka music plays and there are nearly a dozen different beers to guzzle. General admission costs $5. Friday, October 12, from 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Saturday, October 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and Sunday, October 14, from 10:30 a.m to 6:30 p.m.

Greater St. Louis Restaurant Week @ participating St. Louis Metro area eateries Select from a number of prix fixe lunch and dinner deals from restaurants like Amighetti's, EdgeWild Restaurant and Winery, PW Pizza and more to benefit Operation Food Search. Peruse menus on the restaurant week web site. Friday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 21.

Saturday (Oct. 13):

O'Fallon Fall Fest @ Civic Park This fall fest features live music, vendor booths and drinking and dining options from the likes of Heaven Scent Bakery, Pantera's Pizza, Rendezvous Cafe & Wine Bar, and more. Admission is free. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Romanian Ethnic Festival @ St. Thomas Church Explore this ethnic fest for a taste of kabobs, stuffed cabbage, homemade soups and sausages, and Romanian wine and beer. Glimpse folk dancing, a traditional costume display and church tours along the way. Admission is free. Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14 beginning at 11 a.m.

Hampton-Chippewa Festival @ FYE Parking Lot Free entertainment in the form of live music and dance accompanies food and drink prepared by the St. Louis Optimist Club. What kind of food, exactly? We're not sure, but the outlook seems positive. 2 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Sunday (Oct. 14):

Dutchtown Harvest Festival @ Marquette Park In honor of Food Day, a nationwide celebration and movement toward healthy, affordable and sustainable food, the downtown Dutchtown neighborhood features a farmers' market, a pie baking contest, cooking demos, nutrition education, lots of local food to choose from and live music. Admission is free. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Art in the Park - Dueling Desserts @ Lindendale Park; Highland, IL This food-as-art competition takes some area pastry chefs and pits them up against each other with dessert-making demonstrations. Vote for your favorite, and stick around to check out the rest of the visuals and festivities. Admission is free. Noon.

Florissant Old Town Fall Festival @ Rue St. Francois Fall festival season continues with plenty of craft and food booths, a flea market and more. Admission is free. Noon to 5 p.m.

Stone Soup Cottage Cookbook Signing and Demonstration @ Barnes & Noble in Mid Rivers Mall Chef Carl McConnell demonstrates an autumn soup from the Stone Soup Cottage cookbook, and will stick around to sign purchased copies. Free. 1 p.m.
