Want Your Own Bar and Grill? All You Need Is $50 and Lady Luck (Taxes Not Included)

Gut Check doesn't buy raffle tickets. (We're those jerks who forget to bring cash to trivia night so we can't take part in the 50/50 drawing -- but then we are still totally judgmental when the winner doesn't give back his or her 50%.) But we were tempted when we heard about the Fifty Dollar Bar and Grill Raffle.

It's exactly what it sounds like. A ticket costs $50. The grand prize is a fully operational neighborhood bar and grill.

Specifically, the prize is the bar and grill at 2855 Shenandoah Avenue. The address is probably best known to local diners as the home of the late Tanner B's. Most recently, it was the home of the short-lived Fox Park Grille.

Now it could be yours to do with as you will.

The raffle benefits the Knight Train Youth Association, which works to help children ages four through fourteen to participate in organized sports. We called to find out more about the raffle and had a somewhat confusing phone conversation with an employee who said that the building's owner is involved with the organization as a coach.

At any rate, the employee also told us that raffle tickets will be available for purchase until April, not next week as its website proclaims.

As you might imagine, there are many rules and assorted legalese associated with this contest, not least of which is the fact that the winner is responsible for closing costs and taxes, among other things.

Second prize is a set of steak knives.

Kidding. Second prize isn't shabby at all: $5,000. Third prize is a Kindle Fire or other tablet.
