University City is packed with topnotch restaurants, and you can get a sampling from some of the best at Taste of U. City this Thursday, May 9.

Hosted by the chamber of commerce at the Heman Park Community Center (Vernon and Pennsylvania avenues, University City; 314-505-8617), Taste of U. City celebrates the food of the eclectic neighborhood with food and drink samples from more than 30 area restaurants and specialty food stores. Proceeds from the event, co-sponsored by Fifth/Third Bank will support Operation Food Search, which helps fill food pantries across greater St. Louis.

Find out if your favorite U. City restaurant will be there after the jump!

The participating restaurants and groceries include: Al-Tarboush Deli, Bob's Seafood, Cheese-ology Macaroni & Cheese, De Palm Tree, Fitz's Bottling Company, Fortel's Pizza, Frank and Helen's Pizzeria, FroYo Frozen Yogurt, House of India, Jimmy John's, Taqueria La Monarca, Lu Lu Seafood Restaurant, Market Pub House, the Melting Pot, Meshuggah Coffee House, Momos Ouzaria Taverna, Nico, Noodles & Company, Olive Farmers' Market, Papa John's Pizza, The Pasta House Co., Qdoba, Ranoush, Schnucks, Three Kings Public House, Tokyo Seafood Buffet, Tutti-Fruiti Frozen Yogurt and Vernon's BBQ.

Chefs from Qdoba will be at the event demonstrating how to make yummy guacamole, and a barbecue master from Vernon's will show guests how to make a killer rub. A chef from Nico will also be on had to show folks how to make gnocchi. We do not recommend concocting a dish that utilizes all three newly acquired skills, but that's up to you.

A $20 entry fee and a canned food donation will get you unlimited food tastings and a few drinks, provided by Anheuser-Busch and Major Brands, a local alcohol (and water) distributor. If you purchase a ticket before May 8 online or at the University City Public Library, you will receive $5 worth of raffle tickets. Up for raffle are a bicycle, lawn chairs, a football-shaped grill, a basketball hoop and more.

After the event guests are encouraged to head over to the 560 Music Center (560 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-421-3600) for a special concert by the Angel Band Project featuring Norbert Leo Butz and local female vocalist Devon Cahill. Tickets to the concert are $50 and benefit survivors of sexual violence. (Read our feature story on Norbert Leo Butz here.)

So step out Thursday evening to support both the local food bank and the Angel Band Project while satiating your appetite in the process. There are few things we enjoy better than eating for a good cause!
