Last month Gut Check reported that chef Clara Moore, former executive chef and regional manager of local grocery and restaurant chain Local Harvest Cafe & Catering, had launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a cookbook and grocery guide with food writer Matt Sorrell.

As of this writing the project has exceeded its Kickstarter goal of $6,000 by $464, and to celebrate, the authors are hosting a "kick-down" party at Salt (4356 Lindell Boulevard; 314-932-5787) on Friday, May 24, from 7 to 10 p.m.

When we spoke to Moore in April about the the book, titled Shop Like a Chef: A Food Lover's Guide to St. Louis Neighborhoods, she described it as a comprehensive grocery-store guide offering information on more than 20 local neighborhoods, as well as a cookbook featuring more than two dozen tested recipes, such as madras potatoes, mussels in white wine, seafood gumbo, summer succotash and many more.

According to Moore, guests attending the party on Friday evening can expect food from "fun foodie neighborhoods" such as tamales from Cherokee Street, as well as boozy punch from Cocktails Are Go!, the in-home drink tasting service owned by Sorrell.

And just like the kick-off party Moore and Sorrell hosted one month ago when the campaign launched, there will be iPads for last-minute pledges to bolster the book's budget before the campaign expires at Midnight.

Shop Like a Chef: A Food Lover's Guide to St. Louis Neighborhoods is slated to be published fall 2013, and will be available for purchase online and in select St. Louis stores in October.
