Free is always better. Sweet Tomatoes is offering kids under twelve a free meal every Monday in July with the purchase of an adult meal. You don't even have to print a coupon -- just show up with your tyke in tow. Sweet Tomatoes is a chain, but one that's actually good for you (ahem, McDonald's apple dippers). They use more than 50 fresh ingredients to make its soups, salads, hot pastas and bakery items. Many of the menu picks are vegetarian or gluten free, too. Its menus change every month, so you may want to take advantage and use the kids as an excuse to check out Sweet Tomatoes' July Summer Splash offerings.

There are two Sweet Tomatoes in town (9846 Watson Road, Crestwood; 314-966-3882 and 10401 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur; 314-872-9181), and both are participating. "With kids home for the summer and parents looking for great deals, we wanted to make it easy for families to enjoy the tasty and wholesome choices we offer," said chief marketing officer Tammy Bailey. "It's a great deal for families looking to escape the summer doldrums."
