The free, three-day event starts September 27 at the Soliders' Memorial (12th & Market, 314-534-2100). Hosted by Taste of St. Louis' executive chef Vito Racanelli of Mad Tomato (8000 Carondelet, Clayton, 314-932-5733), eight local chefs will battle each other in a live culinary competition thoughout the weekend.

Last year's winner, Christopher Lee of River City Event Center, defeated Jack MacMurray of Jack's Distinctive Taste in the finale battle of beef and beer. Lee beat MacMurray, the 2010 Battle Royale champ, by a mere two points.

There are seven battle categories; each chef must make their best dish in 45 minutes in front of a live audience at Taste of St. Louis. Judges decide who will advance to the next round. This year's categories are mushroom, vegetable, chicken-and-egg, lobster, beef, pork, and cheese. The final round will include dessert.
