#86: Chorizo and Egg Sope at Spare No Rib

St. Louis has its fair share of taquerias, but my hankering for a good sope had gone unsated for far too long. This changed when I discovered Spare No Rib (2200 Gravois Avenue; 314-202-8244), the seemingly odd marriage of Mexican and barbecue that opened last November in Benton Park. I wasn't sure what to expect of the restaurant...or of its chorizo and egg sope. At only $3, I figured I would be served a small, appetizer-sized portion. Instead, a large, freshly made tortilla bowl arrived, filled with an overabundance of toppings -- mild, succulent chorizo, rich beans, creamy guacamole, lettuce and a sprinkling of queso fresco. Topped with a sunny-side egg that oozes over the dish, it is a delicious, filling meal unto itself -- and possibly the best dining bargain in St. Louis.
