Zagat Gives St. Louis Some Love with Must-Visit List

International food guidebook Zagat has really been giving St. Louis some love lately. A few weeks ago it named the new restaurant Spare No Rib as one of the fifteen hottest barbecue joints in the country. Now Zagat has released a guide to the hottest restaurants and bars in our fair city. It's pretty much the places you'd expect, but maybe people will recognize St. Louis' burgeoning culinary scene.

The best breweries on Zagat's list are Perennial Artisan Ales and Urban Chestnut Brewing, which it says "is like a museum dedicated to the art and science of craft brewing."

For dinner, Zagat obviously chose (and not without merit) Niche, mentioning owner Gerard Craft's five James Beard Award nominations. The other pick is Farmhaus. Craft gets another nod for cocktails at Taste, as does Blood and Sand.

Sump Coffee was named one of the best for snacks -- "The off-the-beaten-path shop is a destination both for its reclaimed wood coffee bar and the single-origin coffees that it serves. You won't find sugar in this establishment, and milk is reserved for specific coffee drinks like dirty chai lattes and cortados." You can probably guess the other pick: Strange Donuts.

For brunch, Zagat likes Olio and calls out Ben Poremba's other culinary ventures. Bogart's Smokehouse gets a shoutout for lunch, but Zagat wisely advises readers to show up early.
