Late-Night Deals at Mission Taco Joint

The Drunken Vegan, a.k.a. Patrick J. Hurley, is a full-time barman at the Civil Life Brewing Company and cocktail enthusiast about town. He's an unapologetic drunkard, a vegan and a bon vivant, and, no, he doesn't think those last two terms contradict each other.

Everyone loves tacos. What's better than a compact corn tortilla wrapped around your favorite protein, some tasty toppings and spicy sauce? Cheap tacos, that's what. And some cheap booze to go with them. Mission Taco Joint (both locations) has you covered. Every night it's open (Tuesday through Sunday), Mission serves $2 tacos and $2 shots from 10 p.m. to close.

You can choose between Lunazul Reposado tequila and Old Overholt rye whiskey, but for just two bucks apiece, you might as well have both.

Every taco on the menu is available, too. At $2, you can fill a rack with these tasty babies and not empty your wallet in the process.

Choose from beef brisket, portobello mushroom, fried or grilled fish, roasted duck, nopales, grilled chicken, pork, carne asada or local MOFU tofu. Come hungry and get one of each. A giant rack of nine tacos still comes in under $20.

Luckily, that leaves plenty of money for shots. You can do the tequila, a natural with Mexican food, but don't pass on the whiskey. The rye pairs surprisingly well with some of the spicier tacos.

The tacos are great, and Mission's got a fun atmosphere. It may be the best late-night deal in town. Take the money you save and show some love to the waiters and bartenders.
