Last year Gut Check reported on restaurateur Dave Bailey's plans to add a second location of Rooster to his ever-expanding empire which includes Baileys' Range, Bridge Tap House and Wine Bar, Baileys' Chocolate Bar, Small Batch and a soon-to-come barbecue restaurant. Earlier this week Rooster (3150 South Grand; 314-772-3447) opened its doors in south city with a relocated commissary tucked away in the basement, serving its breakfast and brunch concept -- crepes, anyone? -- as well as a brand-new dinner menu.

The spacious dining room, like many of Bailey's other restaurants, features plenty of natural light that gives way to a romantic atmosphere as the sun rises and sets. With early-morning as well as evening hours available, the setting's a bit different depending on the time of day. Guests can choose a seat at a picnic table on the patio or choose from individual or communal tables available in two separate indoor-dining areas.

Those well acquainted with Rooster's brunch offerings will find old favorites -- the kind that have garnered the restaurant awards for Best Sunday Brunch, Best Bloody Mary and Best Breakfast in RFT's Best of St. Louis issues over the years. Choose from breakfast scrambles, as well as sweet and savory crepes including fillings such as fresh fruit, goat cheese and smoked sirloin.

The dinner menu includes a small selection of "breakfast all day" items as well as a full menu of appetizers, entrees and Baileys' ice cream for dessert. Starters include risotto cakes and grassfed steak tartare, while a dozen entrees ranging from fried chicken and mushroom tarts to monkfish stew and a ground-beef burger.

Rooster on South Grand's current hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, visit the Rooster website or follow it via Facebook.
