We really want to celebrate this weather and the lack of snow by running around the neighborhood and singing, Hairspray-style. Instead, we're going to do what we do best and eat, preferably on a patio. Continue on for this week's food-related recommendations.
Monday (Mar. 9):
Love Gallagher's but don't want to make the drive to Waterloo, Illinois? Join executive chef Mickey Kitterman tonight for an intimate dinner demonstration. You'll eat southern fried boneless breast of chicken with mashed potatoes, cream gravy, Sunday green beans and corn custard, plus peach cobbler. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. He'll also be cooking March 30 at the Dierbergs in Edwardsville. The class is $42; register here.
Tuesday (Mar. 10):
Similar to SLAM's Art at the Table, Feast Your Eyes presents a four-course meal inspired by current exhibitions. Join Winslow's Home's Wil Fernandez-Cruz for a dinner based on Midwestern artists Joe Goode and Jesse Howard. Start with sweet and salty barbecue pork rib and white grits paired with Bulliet Mule. The second course is citrus-roasted beets and crème fraîche paired with Firewater Punch, followed by grilled ribeye, roasted buttonwood chicken, fennel pear sausage, creamed kale, and roasted carrots paired with Red Hawk Pinot Noir. Finally, you'll have Stinger's honey comb and buttermilk ice cream paired with Violet Fizz. From 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75, $50 for members, available here.
Wednesday (Mar. 11):
Schlafly's food-minded film series is back with The Greenhorns, a documentary about young people embracing the farm life. There will be a panel discussion after the screening with regional farmers and learn about how to support young Missouri farmers. From 7 to 9 p.m. A suggested donation of $5 benefits Slow Food STL's microgrant program.
Thursday (Mar. 12):
This week's Tuesday tasting sold out so fast, Remy's added a Thursday dinner. It's focused on Rhones, start with pan-seared sea scallops on herb de Provence braised creamed leeks paired with a 2013 Writers Block from California. Next it's shaved fennel and poached pear salad with dried cherries and feta cheese in a Dijon vinaigrette paired with a 2012 Lioco Indica from California. The third course is beef bourguigon served on French peasant Boule paired with a 2013 Domaine de Cristia Vieilles Vignes from the Cotes du Rhone in France. From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dinner is $38 per person; call 314-726-5757 for reservations.
