Clayton Restaurant Week happens every summer, so it's not like it's a surprise, but it's still an occasion to note -- and to plan for. This year, the city's restaurant week runs from July 13 to July 19 and features 16 restaurants offering three-course dinner menus for $25, not including tax and tip.

The week is a chance for food enthusiasts to discover new restaurants they've been wanting to try, or to revisit old favorites, sampling their featured menus without having to take out a loan from the bank.

This year's participants run the gamut from high-end to casual. Here are our four favorite deals:

1. Coastal Bistro and Bar Coastal Bistro and Bar (14 N. Central Ave., 314-932-7377) is known for its seafood (as if the name wasn't an indicator), and the place lives up to its lofty reputation.

Coastal's Restaurant Week menu offers oysters on the half shell as a first course. The bivalves on their regular menu are normally $11 to 13 for a half dozen, which suggests this could be a real deal -- and there are also three other first course options to choose from: the herb-roasted half chicken, pan-seared salmon, or spinach- and crabmeat-topped mahi mahi.

Finally, to fill the gaps in your stomach, you can choose from chocolate tuxedo cake or a lemon brulee tart. Can it get better than that?

2. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse Not a big seafood eater? Try the restaurant week menu at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (1 N. Brentwood Blvd., 314-783-9900).

Although Ruth's Chris only offers one first course option, a mixed green salad, the steakhouse makes up for it with their choices of second course and side.

Patrons can choose from an 8-ounce prime sirloin, marinated chicken breast, salmon fillet or burger, plus your choice of creamed spinach or mashed potatoes as a side.

To top it off, dive into a chocolate mousse cup and don't come up for air until it's finished. All this for $25? You got it.

3. Remy's Kitchen and Wine Bar If you're in the mood for something different, Remy's Kitchen and Wine Bar (222 S. Bemiston Ave., 314-726-5757) offers a wide range of Mediterranean-inspired dishes in its restaurant week menu.

Remy's offers six different options for the first course, ranging from stuffed grapevine leaves to a Mediterranean salad to fritto misto ("shrimp, calamari and bay scallops with lemon mustard vinaigrette"). And five options are available for your main course -- trout, salmon, beef tenderloin, glassed noodles with braised vegetables, or mahi topped with shrimp.

There are three options for dessert, including an almond crusted marscapone cheesecake, which sounds decadent and delicious.

4. Jimmy's on the Park Our final top pick goes to Jimmy's on the Park (706 De Mun Ave., 314-725-8585), located outside of downtown Clayton.

Jimmy's is offering five different choices for the first course, from a salad to the delectable flash-fried spinach. The second course features nine different options, ranging from beef, chicken, fish, and vegetables (sure to please everyone in your party). There are also three dessert options.
