If you're near downtown St. Louis, and you're looking for a quick lunch, you drive right past the White Castle and the Jimmy John's.

Broadway Oyster Bar, the restaurant/bar/live music venue at 736 S. Broadway, has added a fast-casual counter to its offerings — with an expanded list of sandwiches and other lunch basics ready in ten minutes or less. It's called B.O.B. on the Fly, and owner John Johnson promises "B.O.B. quality at on-the-fly speed."

The genesis for the new service is a new space the Oyster Bar added about three months ago. The idea was to have room for special events, as well as to create an area for those waiting for their table to open up. But, Johnson says, "whenever you build a space, you want to get the maximum use out of it that you can." That led to the creation of the new fast-casual menu and counter service to supplement the place's usual sit-down lunch service.

B.O.B. on the Fly will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Johnson, for one, is already a fan. "I ordered a sandwich just now, and I had it in five minutes," he says. "Our goal is to make sure you can drop a nickel in the meter if you want and you'll be back on the road to the office in no time." You can also choose to dine in on the fast-casual side, he adds — the prices are a bit cheaper, since the sandwiches come a la carte, and you don't have to tip.

"It's a good quality product," he says. "You just get it faster."
