Mona's - An American Italian Joint
(5257 Shaw Avenue, 314-772-8272), the one-year-old spot that brought a new kind of dining to the Hill, has announced it will be closing.

Owner Brendan Marsden said in a statement that he would be closing the restaurant after dinner service this Sunday, September 3. Marsden said he would be selling the restaurant.

Marsden also owns Clayton's Whitebox Eatery. Before opening Mona's, he owned Modesto, an innovative tapas restaurant in the same location on the Hill.

“It was a difficult decision,” Marsden said in his statement, “but I’m a hands-on operator with a young family and a growing restaurant and catering business in Clayton. Balancing everything can be stressful, to say the least, so I’ve chosen to lighten my load and focus my attention on what’s most important to me.”

Marsden said his broker would be looking for buyers. “I’d love to see someone re-open Mona’s, and would be happy to assist in the transition. It’s a great opportunity for someone to buy a turn-key business in a great location and bring their own concept to life.”

Anyone interested in purchasing the business should contact broker Ray LeBlanc at (636) 728-0688.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story provided the wrong date for Mona's opening. It was less than a year ago, in October 2016, not two years ago. We regret the error.
