St. Louis Restaurant Openings & Closings: October 2017

This month's restaurant scene was a whirlwind of change. The owners of Eat-Rite Diner confirmed that they might well be hanging it up for good (although their many fans continue to urge them to say it ain't so!). McArthur's also pulled out of the Loop, all too soon after arriving, and St. Louis bid a sad goodbye to beloved restaurant critic Joe Bonwich (most recently of St. Louis Magazine), another departure that came all too soon.

But the news wasn't all bad. Au contraire. October was full of interesting openings — so many that it was impossible to visit all of them at once. From a sexy spin on the tasting menu in University City to a cozy Affton spot devoted to pretzels to not one but two quick-stop spots with a poke focus, newcomers were many.

Among the big winners? Princeton Heights, which now boasts an outpost of barbecue favorite Salt + Smoke, as well as One Way Cafe, an authentically delicious Mexican spot. Try one, try both — just don't even try to keep up with everything that's coming and going.
