Fish 'N Chip Food Truck from Edibles & Essentials Has Lent Covered

Eating your Friday fish in a church basement? That's so 2017. This Lent, you can queue up for your cod at a food truck.

Matt Borchardt, the chef/owner of south city's Edibles & Essentials (5815 Hampton Avenue, 314-328-2300), says he's converting his french fry food truck, Essentially Fries, to a fish-and-chips truck for the season of penitence. The truck will be parked outside the restaurant from 5 to 9 p.m. every Friday during Lent, offering a classic plate of fish and chips for $12. Borchardt plans to set up picnic tables and chairs for an open-air fish-and-chips experience.

The roving fry purveyor road-tested the offering last Lent to great enthusiasm. "We sold out almost every Friday evening," Borchardt says in a press release.


Borchardt says that Edibles & Essentials will offer additional fresh seafood specials on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays during Lent, including a shrimp po boy and crawfish etoufee.

And as a reminder, Lent comes early this year — you'll need to ash up on February 14 and get ready for meatless Friday soon thereafter. In a hurry? We hear there's a car-based option for that ritual, too. Religion is starting to feel awfully convenient this year.
