From Luke's Diner to the Hollywood Walk of Fame

After spending seven seasons and a 4-episode Netflix special running on coffee and charisma in Stars Hollow, Lauren Graham has been recognized as the star she is. Her Walk of Fame ceremony in L.A. went down last week surrounded by members of her Gilmore Girls family and her Parenthood daughter, Mae Whitman. The rare reunion outside of Luke’s Diner was a delightful reminder that Graham’s been delighting pop culture for actual decades.

So who was Lauren before Lorelai? She was a working actress trying to find her space in Tinseltown, making guest appearances on numerous shows. She had guest roles on Law & Order, Seinfeld, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and even had a breakout recurring role on Caroline in the City. Her early film work included One True Thing and Nightwatch. If you’ve ever been binge-watching ’90s comfort shows and been like, “Wait, why is that face so familiar?” it’s because she kept popping up in bit roles until she showed up as a caffeine-fueled mom on a show about small-town gossip and mother-daughter banter that changed everything for her.

It’s been 25 years since Gilmore Girls captured our hearts, and it’s still the official sponsor of pumpkin-spice season. It ran on the WB/CW from 2000–2007, with fans tuning in weekly to watch Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel try, fail, and try again to have the kind of mother-daughter relationship most people only dream of. The show was so popular that it even got a 2016 revival on Netflix (A Year in the Life). Fans don’t rewatch it so much as they migrate digitally to Stars Hollow every September when the seasons begin to change from summer to fall.

Lauren Graham hasn’t stopped the hustle since leaving the Hollow. If anything, her résumé has only grown more impressive since the cast of Gilmore Girls said “goodbye.” She brought a similar messy mom kind of energy to her role as Sarah Braverman on Parenthood and once again had fans showing up weekly to see what she was up to. She also had a role in Bad Santa, which is a movie that happened and that’s all I’ll say about that. She played a well-meaning older sister with a therapy practice in Because I Said So, has done voice work for Vampirina and Max & the Midnights. She’s also lent her talent to The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and if that’s not impressive enough for you… she’s also a best-selling author. Someday, Someday, Maybe and Talking as Fast as I Can were both smash hits in the literary world, and both were written by Graham.

Now that you know why she deserves her star, let’s talk about the ceremony. Everything went down on October 3, 2025, in Los Angeles. Yes, she was given her star on Mean Girls Day/TLOAS Day, which means that the rest of us will always remember her big day. The ceremony felt a little bit like a town meeting in Stars Hollow, albeit with more people taking pictures and less Taylor Doose ridiculousness. Her OTP from the show was present, as Scott Patterson (Luke) made time to make an appearance. Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) also showed up to support her on-screen daughter, and Yanic Truesdale (Michel) and Matt Czuchry (Logan) also arrived to cheer on Graham. Lauren’s own on-screen daughter was also present to celebrate the honor. No, no, not Rory — Alexis Bledel was busy and couldn’t make it, but the duo did get to reunite briefly at this year’s Emmy celebration. Mae Whitman played Graham’s troubled daughter Amber on Parenthood, and the two have remained close ever since wrapping the show. Also notably present was Amy Sherman-Palladino, the mind behind the creation of Gilmore Girls, who hand-picked Lauren for the starring role. Did Graham get misty-eyed while discussing the show’s legacy and hinting that she and Sherman-Palladino may not yet be done working together? Well, wouldn’t you???

She led, we followed, and now Lauren Graham’s name is even more cemented into Hollywood history. Lorelai was always meant to find her place among the stars, and now she’s got one with her name on it.
