Alberta Cross will give St. Louis a double dose of its music tomorrow, on July 17: The band brings its modern psych-rock to Off Broadway that night and releases its new album Songs of Patience the same day. Doors open at Off Broadway at 8 p.m. and the show is scheduled to start at 8:30. Tickets are $12 to $17.
You can expect a full-out sweaty rock show if its in anything like the band's last visit, says front man Petter Ericson Stakee. "We've been out [on tour] for ten days now and we're on fire, so its going to be a really good show."
The Brit-rock band has been compared to Oasis, My Morning Jacket and even Pink Floyd. It has put in its rock dues by touring with Neil Young, Them Crooked Vultures and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
The band's higher pitched vocals and classic guitar screams mix with deep songwriting to throw your body into a rock dancing trance.
Alberta Cross expects to play heavily off its new album, with old songs mixed in and possibly some weird covers. After some readjustments, Alberta Cross now comprises new supporting band members. They've brought their music closer to home by having friends tour with them. "[The new members] are buddies that are amazing musicians and also brothers," says Stakee.
If you can't make it to the show, Alberta Cross will be doing an in-store show at Vintage Vinyl at 6 p.m. You will also be able to pick up Songs of Patience while you're there (or listen to it stream here).
The album rediscovers the band's original sound. Most pre-production was done in a haunted art hotel in Woodstock, NY. Not surprisingly then, there is a heavily ghostly element to the album.
The band battled multiple producers on the last album, finally deciding to work with close friends in the end. "We don't really want someone to take control of the recording and tell us what to do with the songs that I write," says Starkee.
Rock band Everest will be opening the Off Broadway show to promote its newly released album Ownerless.
