An Updated, Centralized List of Local Haiti Benefit Shows

Jan 18, 2010 at 11:27 am

Over the weekend, I received a ton of emails about the local Haiti benefit shows going on. Rather than add to the several posts we've already written, I figured I'd gather everything in one place. [4:30 p.m. Monday: Updated again!] The Daily RFT news blog and Ian's Gut Check food blog are also keeping track of events going on, so be sure to check over there as well throughout the week. (Start with Keegan Hamilton's list, which some more bar-centric events, and posts about benefits at Pi and Frazer's Restaurant & Lounge.)

Update: Tonight! Monday, January 18: Black Label Gallery (tip to The Blender) Called "Hits for Haiti," this event features Bradd Young, June 5th, Ruka Puff, Corey Black, Jay Kidd, Bryant Stewart, Rep. Chris Carter, Rockwell Knuckles, Aloha, Hitman DJ's, D Fresh. The event starts at 8 p.m., and you can donate cans, clothing or $10 at the door.

*Wednesday, January 20: Atomic Cowboy

*Friday, January 22: The Billiken Club and the Gargoyle The latter's existing local-band showcase featuring Exercise, Dear Vincent and the Livers has turned into a benefit for Doctors Without Borders. Admission is free for students, $5 for the general public, but Kenny Hofmeister, GM of KWUR, emailed me and said "we're suggesting that people who aren't paying to get in make some kind of a donation." The Facebook event page is here.

The Billiken Club's previously reported JamFest, meanwhile, will benefit two organizations: Partners in Health and International Lifeline for Haiti. Here's that Facebook event page.

*Friday, January 22: The Gramophone From Daily RFT:

This show will feature a variety for performers including Mario Pascal, Lamar Harris, Weedie Braimah and others. The $10 suggested donation at the door and 30% of the bar revenue will go directly to The CRUDEM Foundation.

Also, we have a corporate sponsor who will be matching every dollar we raise, so your $10 donation at the door will be $20 for CRUDEM and every dollar spent at the bar will turn into 60 cents for the cause!

*Saturday, January 23: Central Reform Congregation (5020 Waterman Blvd) The event's suggested donation is $10, and it will benefit two agencies: Med & Food for Kids and the American Jewish World Service.

Featuring: Rabbi Randy Fleisher, Leslie Caplan, Marty Miller & Rabbi Ed Harris, Andrew Bollinger, David and Sara Surkamp (of Pavlov's Dog), Ricardo Souza Melo, Robert Fishbone, Will Soll & Shlomo and Ed Reggi & the Paper Slip Theatre.

*Saturday, January 23: The Venue (via Daily RFT, via the Blender)

Performing are Jibbs, Ebony Eyez, Tydis, Bradd Young, Aloha, Nikko Smith, Bos, Joka, Yung Ro, Juanita's Place, P-Dub, Flirt, Nite Owl, Stevie Stone, T-Baby, Spiffy, J.R. Eazzy Money, Skiddalz, and Yung Will, comedians Jessie Taylor and Hot Sauce, and DJ Needles and DJ Tab.

A $20 donation at the door goes toward disaster relief aid. Dress code will be enforced -no ball caps, plain t-shirts, or hoodies.

*Friday, January 22 through Sunday, January 24: The SLSO will donate a portion of ticket proceeds to the American Red Cross.

*Tuesday, February 9: The Sheldon A benefit for Doctors Without Borders will feature an all-star cast of local musicians.
