You'd never guess that Bad Veins hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. For starters, the duo just signed to Dangerbird Records, the LA label that's home to indie darlings Silversun Pickups and Eulogies. And second, the band's cinematic pop and introspective daydreams align perfectly with California's impeccable indie-pop scene. (Then again, though, its geography does shine through a bit; songs such as "Afraid" conjure the loneliness and anguished riffs of Midwest staples such as Cursive.) Athens, Georgia's Dead Confederate, whose cover of the Sonic Youth noise maelstrom "The Diamond Sea" at Fubar in March impressed mightily, headlines. Also on the bill are local synth-rockers the Domani International, which recently contributed a track to an Afghan Whigs tribute album.
