Well, St. Louis, this is your chance to get it all off your chest and have your talent potentially discovered! Def Poetry Jam co-producer Bruce George will be hosting the Spoken Word Extravaganza and Talent Search at Francois Cognac & Cigar Bar (326 Vandeventer Avenue; 314-839-0335). At 8 p.m. Friday, October 28, you can articulate your inner-most workings. Slam it, plan it, rap it, map it, just get out there, get heard and get that beat happening.
Clear out Dad's old trunk of Playboys: One usually finds things such as Christmas lights, moth-chewed quilts and prosthetic limbs in an attic. But head to The Attic at the New Life Community Church (15036 Clayton Road) on Saturday, October 29, and you'll find a brain-blowing punk-rock festival: AtticFest 2005. This ten-dollar festival begins at noon and is every hardcore kid's wet dream. Between the upstairs, downstairs and outside stages, over twenty bands are scheduled to appear, including (deep breath) When Sorrow Fails, Blinded Black, NEOxGEO, Sophomore, No Such Monster, Dead End, Blank Earth, Westcott, Blame Gary, Building Rome, Crimson Addict, one lone car and Least of All Saints.
