Evanick [corrected], drummer for St. Louis-area metal band the Core of Your Nightmares, pled guilty on Monday to a federal charge of producing child pornography. According to reporting by the Post-Dispatch, Evanick, 31, admitted to having sex "five to seven times" with a 17 year-old at his home in Collinsville in the past year, and to then taking nude pictures on his phone.
Just to be clear: Evanick didn't get his giant evil giant clown feet shackled in irons for having sex with a 17-year-old, as that's the age of consent in Missouri -- It's the nude photos that may land him in jail for 20 to 24 years come sentencing day on November 4.
Evanick has been in jail since October, and Core of Your Nightmares hasn't been very forthcoming outside of a short post on their Facebook page back in October that acknowledged that Evanick had been arrested, writing the following:
As most of you may already know, our drummer Vlad has been arrested on child pornography charges; we had no involvement or knowledge about these act, and we in no way condone in such actions, what happened to him is unfortunate, but he brought it on himself.
Update, 11:17 a.m.: A few more details have come out in a press release by the Southern Illinois Department of Justice: Apparently, the investigation into Evanick's behavior began on April 21, 2012, when the mother of a then-16-year-old daughter contacted about a possible sexual assault. The ensuing investigation pointed to Evanick, whose phone held four photos of the victim that "constituted child pornography". Here's the full release:
A Collinsville man pled guilty on July 22, 2013, to Production of Child Pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2251(a), the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Martin L. Evanick, a/k/a "Vlad," 31, Collinsville, IL, faces a term of imprisonment of not less than fifteen (15) years but not more than thirty (30) years, a fine up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of five (5) years to life. Sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2013, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Evanick has been in the custody of the United States Marshals Service since his arraignment on October 19, 2012.The investigation began on April 21, 2012, when the victim's mother contacted the Collinsville Police Department regarding a possible sexual assault on her 16 year old minor daughter by a 30 year old man, later identified as Defendant Martin L. Evanick. During interviews with authorities, the victim revealed that she had a sexual relationship with Evanick, and that Evanick had also taken nude pictures of her using his cellular telephone. During the investigation, Evanick's cellular telephone was found to contain four photographs of the victim, taken when she was 17 years old, that constituted child pornography. In an interview with agents, Evanick admitted taking the sexually explicit photos of the victim.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
