Curl Up and Die

Curl Up and Die's verbose song titles convey optimism ("I Don't Give a Shit If I'm in Outer Darkness, I'll Make Friends") and utilize corny phrases ("Make Like a Computer and Get with the Program"). Amusing stuff, but Curl Up's tunes are so heavy that it feels risky to describe their titles as funny -- for fear that the band members could snap at the perceived clown comparison, Joe Pesci-in-Goodfellas style. On their recent release, The One of Above All, the End of All That Is, Curl Up and Die maintain these clever christenings ("There Ain't No CAN'T in AmeriCAN") but modify their sound by trading constant conflict for metallic grooves. Still, the Las Vegas-based band's songs remain as busy as gaming-room floors, with speed-shredding guitars and fire-belching vocals replacing slot-machine bells and cascading coins.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 to $10; call 314-621-9333 for more information.
