There's a freak inside all of us, and neo-folkie Devendra Banhart knows it. If you need a song to stoke your inner children, inner gods or inner demons, there's no one better to turn to than Devendra. His latest album, Cripple Crow, is a fantastic mix of various musical styles and irreverent images. One fuzzed-out folk anthem voices both the desire to have long-haired children and to comb a long-ass beard over a balding head. Another song postulates that he'll have Chinese children no matter where he settles, while the warbling title track is a fine anti-war song and also one of his best.
