Given the unpredictability of chemistry among musicians, the concept of a "supergroup" comprising players who already have succeeded on their own or with previous bands isn't always a sure-fire recipe for success. Fortunately, keyboardist George Duke, bassist Marcus Miller and saxophonist — and former St. Louisan — David Sanborn, the three principals of DMS, already have three decades worth of friendship and shared history as a foundation for their first official collaboration as a band. Setlists from the tour so far have emphasized funk and fusion, with tunes like "Chicago Song" and "Run for Cover," along with Duke's funky hit "Reach for It" and Miller's "Tutu," originally written by Miles Davis' bassist.
