After finding some success with the dance-punk band Ima Robot, Alex Ebert turned down the Pulp-y glam and formed the indie-orchestral troupe Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. Ebert created his Sharpe persona as a traveling holiness preacher who keeps getting waylaid by earthly delights, and you can pick out the heavenly and Dionysian strains on last year's Up From Below. On "Home," Ebert squares off with Jade Castrinos, and the track comes off like a Johnny and June duet sung by desert nomads, swathed in twangy guitars, joyous horns and group vocals. The ambitious can scope out the first two chapters of the band's bizarrely entrancing feature-length musical; the merely curious can simply groove to the Flaming Lips-meets-Polyphonic Spree jams.
