It would have been easy for Fat Possum Records to follow its success with R.L. Burnside and T-Model Ford by only releasing discs from long-forgotten bluesmen. Instead, the Oxford, Mississippi, label has championed new talent both in and out of the blues idiom, from the Black Keys to Andrew Bird to the Fiery Furnaces. Now, in the tradition of the label showcase tours of old, comes the Fat Possum Big Legal Mess Caravan Tour, starring two of the label's road warriors. Jack Oblivian & the Tennessee Tearjerkers plays simple, catchy rock tunes with plenty of reverb and an addictive '60s-pop backbeat. With an audible love for Buddy Holly and sharp, country-flecked rock, John Paul Keith & the One Four Fives heads more toward rockabilly through new wave's neon-lit expressways.
