You may not know the name Gold Tooth, but chances are you've seen one or more of its members — singer/guitarist Jeff Gallo, bassist Wil Pelly and drummer Joe Meyer — playing around town in the past decade. But although the men have served time in too many local bands to list, none of their other acts had Gold Tooth's no-bullshit heaviness. Solid Gold is a mix of bong-rattling stoner-rock riffs, throat-scraping growls and more than a few nods to '70s classic rock and '80s heavy metal. Still, the album contains plenty of nuance and precision despite all of its hard-rock action. Opening track "Gunshy" wastes no time in unleashing a stuttering riff, but right at the halfway point Gallo toys with a massively overdriven, two-note rockabilly figure before breaking the song down with some ominous, Tool-esque ambience. After a few spins of the disc, it becomes clear that Gold Tooth is interested in rocking your face off — regardless of the methods it uses or the genres it employs.
