Most Americans thinking of Wales, if they do at all, probably call up vague images of rainy glens, odd things on toast and lunatic spelling. We ignorant Staters can be forgiven for not immediately thinking of Welsh progressive house, but if Hybrid is any indication of the talent there, it may be time to revise our thoughts. A duo from the town of Swansea, Hybrid makes sweeping tracks that can rise up to symphonic heights, sometimes literally: The DJs/producers recorded with the Russian Federal Orchestra for its debut LP, Wide Angle. Some of Hybrid's music is so ornate and gorgeous that it seems better for the drawing room than the dance floor, but it's a pretty safe bet that the fellas will do a fine job of moving bodies this Saturday at Velvet. It may not be xyglityxy on toast with Clymyr Garbyggple down at the pub, but that's okay.

Doors open at 9 p.m. Call 314-241-8178 for ticket price and more information.
