The young alt-country quartet Limbeck may call the OC home, but their albums sound directly imported from the Midwest. 2003's Hi, Everything's Great sprang forth from a studio in Eudora, Kansas, while 2005's Let Me Come Home was recorded live-to-tape in Minneapolis and produced by Polara's Ed Ackerson and the Jayhawks' Gary Louris. Throughout both, the perpetual road warriors in Limbeck evoke sprawling landscapes and all-night, front-porch bullshit sessions — scenes captured through joyous acoustic strumming, stark album art (courtesy of vocalist and amateur photographer Robb MacLean) and a propensity for songs about real places and faces they've encountered along the way. For a city so enamored with its Bottle Rockets and early Wilco, it's a shame St. Louis only gets to welcome Limbeck back every few years or so.
