Lojic

Friday, January 28; the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard)

Lojic member Helias says that his band sometimes gets compared to Incubus and 311, but don't let that stop you from checking Logic out at the Pageant on Friday for its CD release party. The band's sound is more layered than those two, with more interesting wordplay and musical arrangements. A big plus are the scratches, courtesy of Helias, a DJ who also works with local hip-hop label the Frozen Foods Section. The group's new CD, The Manual, was produced by Steve Ewing of the Urge, but some of the band members have worked with rappers like Midwest Avengers. That could be why their music seems pleasantly grounded in hip-hop -- and we're talking actual hip-hop, not the kind that Fred Durst vomited back in Britney's pre-Mrs. Kevin Federline days. Also on the bill are Core Project, Groovaholics and the Red Army.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5-$7; call 314-726-6161 for more information.
