When you think about it, most songs center on one of two things: love or rage. (Only if you're lucky do songs address the intersection of the two.) As the title of this event suggests, Love Songs and Murder Ballads takes two seemingly incongruous song forms and explores how these twin passions interlock. The concert will feature performances from post-war jazz ensemble Swing DeVille, Irish folk maestros Kevin Buckley and Eileen Gannon, roots-music wellspring Tom Hall, and several more. The event benefits the Folk School of St. Louis, whose students know a thing or two about song craft.
