Lucky Boys Confusion/Pomeroy

Call 314-421-3853. $10 to $12.

Formed some nine years ago in sleepy Downers Grove, Illinois, Lucky Boys Confusion were just in time to get a few last rides on ska-punk's third wave. Each subsequent album found the band tinkering with its sound, aiming for something like punk and settling for something closer to amped-up modern rock with sensitive-guy vocals. Competent if a bit dated, LBC sounds positively modern compared to Pomeroy's retro mash-ups. "She's Dangerous," from the band's recent Live at the Blue Note DVD, half-quotes Bel Biv Devoe, approximates Depeche Mode's atmospherics — and somehow conjures Phil Collins' "Easy Lover."
