Earlier this year, the Fox Theatre played host to an evening with outlaw icons Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard, the two songwriters who helped redefine country music shared stories and songs with grace and mutual admiration. Consider Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt descendants of those two masters — both made their names by defying Nashville traditions and letting songcraft stand in place of middle-of-the-road sonics and glossy sheen. Much like Merle and Kris, Lyle and John will swap songs and banter across the stage in an acoustic setting, letting their intersecting strains of country, folk, blues and rock twist and tangle throughout the course of the show.
