With the minor exceptions of some unfortunate facial hair and a lyrical depth that doesn't quite measure up to the gravitas of his richly raw croon, Marc Broussard is a full and infinitely marketable musical package. A diverse singer-songwriter who meshes optimistic soul-pop with dirty '70s funk, Broussard has toured with artists such as moe. and Tori Amos -- while the album Carencro, named after his Louisiana hometown, serves up Southern roots-rock that's hard-boiled, steaming and delectably spicy.
