Mark Farina

One of the hardest-working DJs on the San Francisco dance label Om Records, Mark Farina espouses jazzy house music and hip-hop, sensibilities nearly extinct in clubland. Ten years ago, both styles were in vogue, but now they're rarely heard above clanging tribal house, techno-trance and crunk-styled rap. So consider Farina something of a throwback to a less-aggressive moment in club culture. His long-running DJ mix series, Mushroom Jazz, aptly summarizes his sound: groovy and psychedelic, but not druggy enough to ruin the vibe.
