You probably don't even realize that you're familiar with the music of Matt & Kim. The herky-jerk piano scuttle of its song "Daylight" gives the commercials for Bacardi Mojito their sense of urbane cool, while the promos for NBC's new Chevy Chase and Joel McHale vehicle Community are complemented nicely with Matt & Kim's mid-tempo basher "Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare." (Both tracks can be found on this year's Grand.) But despite these high-profile spots, this minimalist drum 'n' keys duo is a resolutely DIY party band. Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino met at a Brooklyn art school just a few years ago and have quickly earned a reputation for putting on some of the most exhilarating and relentlessly upbeat shows around, filled with pogo-spastic dancing and daredevil handstands. Occasionally these bursts of energy are cover for over-simplistic and undercooked songwriting, but sloppy is good for this level of spunk. As an added bonus, Sunday's show has been selected as the first-ever RFT music tweet-up (twitter.com/rftmusic), so you can rock out 140 characters at a time.
