Meet Your New Music Editor

Hello from Kiernan Maletsky, your new RFT music editor. As you may have heard , I have the honor of taking over for Annie Zaleski, who's moving back to Cleveland. And though I grew up in Colorado and have been living in Denver, where I was writing for our sister paper Westword, this state isn't altogether new to me: I'm a Mizzou grad.

Annie has done great work during her tenure in St. Louis; her farewell column illuminates her devotion to music in this city. I am lucky to inherit a section that's been so conscientiously managed.

I've been in St. Louis a little less than a week, and already I've been transported by Ellen The Felon and Langen (Lang-a-Tang) Neubacher at their Foam open mike night. I've met some great musicians and supporters of the scene, and in the coming months, I will meet lots more of you.

If you know of anything involving St. Louis music that I should know about, too, please don't hesitate to email me at kiernan.maletsky AT riverfronttimes.com. I'm also on Twitter @kmaletsky.

As the new guy in town, I am eager to hear from you -- and learn about every corner of music and nightlife in St. Louis. I will only completely ignore things I don't know about; with time and with your help, there will be very little in that category.

I believe that music writing should be the beginning of a discussion, not the end of it. I also believe that music is almost never a matter of life or death.
