As for "giving it up": No chance. The Canadian trio is still as loud and startling as when it freaked out the '80s hardcore squares with grotesque sagas like "Dad" and "Self-Pity." Nomeansno has produced a lot of crazed, willfully obscure, occasionally accessible music since, including covers of the Ramones' "Beat on the Brat" and Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" on the same disc (No One, 2000). Live, Nomeansno is a revelation, stunning the unsuspecting with pulverizing volume and more stomach-churning twists than the Screaming Eagle.
Appropriately, openers Corbeta Corbata are Nomeansno's most avid local disciples. Singer/bassist Ben Smith has obviously learned a thing or two from Rob Wright's vocal bark and cock-eared rhythm jerks; an increasing power-chord rock element makes Corbeta Corbata's sound all the more dramatic.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8-$10; call 314-621-9019 for more information.
