That Canadian guy in the giant mouse head notwithstanding, the notion of the "superstar DJ" — globetrotting beatmeisters earning millions to soundtrack hedonistic, all-night dance riots — almost seems like a quaint relic of days gone by. But for budding-chef-turned-trance-god Paul Oakenfold, the party's not over just yet. Now 47, Oakenfold's impressive 25-year résumé — a pivotal figure in the UK and Ibiza techno scenes, he became a prolific producer and remixer who popularized everything from acid house and drum 'n' bass to Goa trance — helps him remain a decent draw whenever he hits the club circuit. Oakenfold's skills certainly haven't diminished with time — he's a Jedi when it comes to moving a crowd, choosing the right groove for the right moment, and conjuring that euphoria that makes everyone listening and dancing feel like a superstar.
