Paula Cole is a textbook example of an artist who is incorrectly remembered as a one-hit wonder. The Massachusetts singer-songwriter's second album, 1996's double-platinum This Fire, was instrumental in sparking the Lilith Fair era. After "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" became a hit with legs, its follow-up, "I Don't Want to Wait," was inescapable. Her next LP, 1999's forgotten soft-rock platter Amen, didn't yield any big singles. Over the next eight years, Cole wrestled with depression and split with Warner Brothers. In 2007, Cole's sparse and jazzy Courage album also flew under the radar. She's finishing a new LP, Ithaca, that one of her Web posts describes as "a ground-trembling, subconscious-releasing volcano." This tour, she's leading a trio, performing songs from her whole catalog, backed by guitarist Ben Butler (Suzanne Vega) and drummer Ben Wittman (Rosanne Cash).
