There was a time long, long ago when the rap game claimed an honor system that rewarded bullet wounds and hard time with obscene green (and yes, that goes two ways). William Roberts II learned that game, ostensibly, while serving as a correctional officer in South Florida in the '90s before deciding, "Nahh." The corpulent rapper took his name and persona from "Freeway" Ricky Ross, a notorious cocaine slinger who was famously pinched in connection with Iran-Contra. Roberts has built an empire on a borrowed legend — and helped usher in a new era where the truth is second only to the almighty flow.
