R.I.P. Jamie Foehner, Lemmons Booker and Trivia Host Extraordinaire

Mar 24, 2009 at 12:11 am

Sad news to report: Jamie Foehner, who was a familiar figure at Lemmons as their booker/door man and trivia co-host, passed away late yesterday. He was 38. His Facebook page alluded to some recent health problems and hospital stays, but no further details are available at the moment. [Update, March 26: A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, April 5. Details taking shape here.]

Foehner co-hosted/wrote Lemmons' popular trivia night(s), and manned the door at the pizza joint/club often, almost always with a book in tow. He and pal Doug Golden also co-wrote a comedy CD called Soloman Carver: The Misogynist Mark Twain, which recently became available online.

I went to shows at Lemmons fairly frequently after I moved to St. Louis in 2005, and Jamie always went out of his way to be kind to me. He had a soft spot for power-pop, and so we had many conversations about bands of that ilk. And whenever he would book a show he was excited about that he thought I would also like, he made sure to go out of his way to let me know so the RFT might cover it. Someone actually called my radio show tonight and told me about Jamie's death, and asked me to play a song for him. I did: The Go-Betweens' "Cattle and Cane."

Feel free to leave memories or kind words in the comments.
