RIP Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman: Does This Mean the End of Slayer?

You'd assume they'd have to call it a day, but I fear that will not be the case. The version of Slayer that's out there touring right now is really only half of Slayer. Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has been filling in for Hanneman since February 2011 and Jon Dette has been behind the drum kit since Dave Lombardo asked too many questions about money and got nudged out of the band earlier this year. I don't think Kerry King really cares about preserving Hanneman and Slayer's legacy. I think King cares about money and monster trucks and stupid sunglasses and energy drinks and being a bro douchebag. Even a brief statement from him, and not some publicist, to announce Jeff's passing would have been nice.

I believe the band will continue, but it really just isn't Slayer anymore. King and Araya touring around with some fill-in musicians, playing Hanneman's songs and calling it Slayer to sell some $30 T-shirts? Not interested. As far as I'm concerned, Slayer is no more. It's a sad day for metal fans.

Hanneman died with his wife and his two brothers by his side.

RIP Jeff Hanneman.

RIP Slayer.
