Rosie Flores has never been much for the costumed and coiffed wannabillies, and they've never been much for her. Their loss. She had her fling with the punks in the late-'70s and early-'80s, but since then she's established herself as one of the purest interpreters of honky-tonk, western swing and the kind of rockabilly that doesn't need silly invocations of Satan and psychosis to raise a bit of hell. For Flores, a bluebird voice, unassailable knowledge of all hillbilly music (which includes rock & roll) and guitar licks hot enough to win her session work -- with musicians such as Butch Hancock and Terry Clarke -- count for more than all the bandanas and boots in Texas. Flores' most recent St. Louis gigs have been solo affairs, but this time she'll be fronting a trio. Smart bets say she'll tear south-side roofs off for miles.
