If you're at a loss as to where to hear great progressive electronic music on a Saturday night, and don't feel like going to the Washington Avenue meat market (whose two big dance clubs,
Cheetah and
Velvet, have, admittedly, been booking some of St. Louis' best DJs),
84 Glyde, a four-man DJ crew, tosses off fantastic, genre-defying sets every other week at the magical
Upstairs Lounge on South Grand. The crew -- Shan-shan, Jact and Ses -- continues its residency this Saturday, Dec. 18. It's a blast, a mixture of trance, house, techno, drum & bass, hip-hop and all those other damn genres -- basically, great dance music. The most recent session was amazing, save for one bad-vibe incident -- one of the DJs screamed at a couple dudes who were dancing pretty hard, causing the record to skip. No fair -- you can't get pissed at dancers for dancing to dance music, especially when, ultimately, it's the DJ's fault for inciting them to dance in the first place. We'd have been more offended if they were playing crap. But they weren't. They were great -- and will no doubt be just as great this Saturday.
