Citing the state of emergency Governor Jay Nixon put into place for the state of Missouri this past Monday, two pop-country singers have canceled two separate shows in the St. Louis area that were planned for this week. First Nashville's Hunter Hayes nixed his Chaifetz Arena show, scheduled for last night -- the announcement was made on Wednesday -- and now David Nail, also of Nashville, has followed suit by canceling his performance scheduled for tonight at Ballpark Village.

The announcements are similar, both claiming to be "out of respect." Here's Hayes', issued by the venue:
Out of respect for Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's declaration declaring a state of emergency in Missouri, Hunter Hayes' Thursday, November 20 show at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis has been cancelled. Tickets will be reimbursed at the point of purchase. At this time, all other University related events at Saint Louis University this week are planned to go on as scheduled.Hayes assures his fans that he will be back to St. Louis in 2015.
And here is the one from Nail's camp, posted on his official website:
Out of respect for the declaration of state of emergency in Missouri, David Nail's show on Friday November 21 at Ballpark Village in St. Louis for 92.3 WIL Hot Country Nights presented By Ford has been postponed and will be rescheduled for 2015.
(Hint to Nail's people: You probably don't have to worry about including those "92.3 WIL Hot Country Nights presented By Ford" marketing lines when you are cancelling the entire show anyway. But I digress.)
Meanwhile, literally hundreds of thousands of people continue to live and work and play and attend shows in the St. Louis area -- which has not seen any outbreaks of widespread unrest or mob violence in the past week, regardless of what Nixon's decree might have you believe -- as the grand jury in the case of officer Darren Wilson's shooting of teenager Mike Brown reportedly draws close to making a ruling on whetherto indict. The vast majority of scheduled concerts and events are going on as planned. Check out our picks for the weekend here.
